The Bicentennial chair is a beloved landmark among locals and one of a series of outdoor giant chairs -- each one larger than the last -- erected since 1905 in this self-proclaimed “Chair City of the World.” The current model is 20 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 3,000 pounds. It stands as a tribute to the city’s once glorious manufacturing history and sense of competitive spirit. Another big chair, this one, 12 feet tall and indoors, is displayed at the Gardner Heritage State Park's Visitor Center.
